It is very important to configure the Avast antivirus to scan your computer properly. It is a quite simple process and can be completed in a quick time.

  1. First, open the main window of the Avast antivirus. If you are opening the main window of the software for the first time, then you will be prompted to enter the serial number in the dialog box. You can get the serial number with the software packaging. Enter the series and press 'Ok' to close the registration window.
  2. Now, open the Avast antivirus again and select 'On-Access Protection Control' icon. Here, you can set the level of protection for your system. If you select the level to 'High', then most of the programs are blocked by your computer and you cannot connect to other computers on your network. Select the 'Medium' settings and press 'Ok'.
  3. Click the 'Start' menu of the computer and choose 'All programs' and click 'Accessories', then click 'System Tools' and 'Scheduled Tasks'. Click 'Add Scheduled Task' from the window. This will start the wizard which will schedule the scanning regularly on your computer.
  4. Now, click the 'Browse' button to select the Avast executable file. Navigate to ''C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4'', and then double-click the ''ashQuick.exe''. This file executes the Avast antivirus. Click the 'Next' button. Select a day and frequency to run the anti-virus software. After that, click 'Next' button.
  5. Select the option 'Open advance properties for this task when I click Finish' and then click 'Finish'. This will open a new window where you can select the drives you want to scan. Have you ever thought what antivirus does after detecting a harmful file? Where does that diagnosed infected file go? No, we actually don't give proper thought to this process. When Avast finds a harmful file, it actually moves to Virus Chest. This is a depository of infected or suspicious files away from the entire operating system so that they won't damage to other files or the system. No outside process, virus or software application is accessible when files are in Virus Chest. Also the files cannot be run from inside the antivirus folder. It means there is no harm in storing the files in the chest.

It is a secured place for saving the harmful infected files, separating them from the operating system. If you try to access a file in the antivirus folder by double-clicking, you can only view the file properties.
